West Coast Set To Win W/ ‘Top Dawg’ Kendrick Lamar & Dr Dre’s Backing

The pressure is on for Dr. Dre – as industry insiders rely on the former Death Row Records producer to not only keep the west coast on the map, but to save the entire rap game as a whole. That’s why sources say Dre recently put his own album on hold to produce an album for fellow Compton MC, Kendrick Lamar. But, while this may be Kendrick Lamar’s first album, the 25-year-old lyricist is no stranger to having his work go to wax. That’s because the west coast rapper/ghostwriter has penned lyrics for Dr. Dre. Now, industry insiders are banking on the union between the pair, to land the west coast back in the spotlight. It’s the reason behind the deal recently struck between Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records/Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records and Anthony Tiffith’s Top Dawg Entertainment. Now, sources are calling TDE “the west coast’s next big thing” – as the company prepares to launch Kendrick Lamar under its umbrella. Here’s the drop: “Top Dawg Entertainment is the next best thing to come out of L.A. TDE has some of the best new rappers to bless the industry SchoolBoy Q, Jay Rock, and of course Kendrick Lamar. Dr. Dre wanted Kendrick Lamar because they’re both from Compton, California. Kendrick’s track the ‘Recipe’ is a Dr Dre record, but Kendrick had Dre sounding nice on the mic, cause he penned Dre’s lyrics. Kendrick Lamar’s album is pushing Dr Dre to his limit, Dre is trying to save hip hop in general. Kendrick is working hard in the studio and he’s making a lot of money ghostwriting for almost everybody in the industry.”
